When the doors opened in 2007, Mopelia became an instant staple of playa El Tunco. An international pub-style eatery, the best beer selection around, warm and welcoming proprietors; it was an oasis of tranquility and they set the standard for hospitality at the time. Mopelia was that place of deep tradition with a spirited personality.
"Los libros están hechos de capítulos..." "Books are made of chapters..." in the words of Gilles. As of 1 May 2021 the book of Mopelia is turning the page on a new chapter. We are excited to continue the spirit of tradition that lays at the core of Mopelia, while adding a touch of something new: Mopelia 2.0, if you will. As the legacy that is Mopelia exists in all of you that have come before, so will the legacy persist in all of you that continue to come, and those who will know only version 2.0.
We extend our gratitude to all of you, old and new, for making Mopelia what it is today, and for carrying on with what it will be tomorrow.
On January 3, 2023 the Hotel at Mopelia closed its doors for good. Thank you to all of the loyal guests we had the pleasure of hosting over the years.

The restaurant at Mopelia is open to the public for dinner six nights a week. Our menu is inspired by home cooking throughout the Americas and beyond, and features a selection of simple, tasty dishes that will make you feel at home. We source local ingredients as much as possible, and our bread is made in house!
Behind the bar you will find a truly unique offering of craft beers and natural wines from the world round, and the classic cocktails we all know and love, done right.
